If your July calendar still assumes Saturday is the main event, the programming grid across Anne Arundel County has quietly moved on without you. The county's best free evenings this month sit on Wednesday and Thursday, and the mid-month restaurant news at 80 Compromise Street is going to reset the harbor dinner rotation for the rest of the summer.
The reason to plan this week, not next, is that two anchor series are running at the same time on the same nights, and a pair of highly visible openings drop into the middle of it all on July 16. Weekend planners will still get their fireworks, but residents who treat Wednesday and Thursday as prime time are getting more county for less traffic.
The Wednesday Anchor Sits On West Street
Dinner Under the Stars runs every Wednesday from May 20 through September 30, 2026, from 6 to 10 PM on the first block of West Street in downtown Annapolis, with seven restaurants spilling into the closed street: Rams Head Tavern, Stan & Joe's, Luna Blu, El Toro Bravo, Picante, 49 West, and Tsu, and live music from 6 to 9 PM in front of Mission Escape Rooms. Tsu is the recent rebrand of Tsunami, so if you have not been down the block in a while, that is the same sushi room you remember with a shorter name and a later kitchen.
The block runs Church Circle to Calvert Street, which matters for parking. The Calvert Street Garage at 19 St. John's Street is free on weeknights after 6 PM, Gott's Court Garage is reservable in advance, and Whitmore Garage runs $2 for the evening. If you live in Cape St. Claire, Arnold, or Severna Park and usually think of downtown Wednesday as a parking headache, the Calvert lot removes the argument.
One Saturday exception is worth clearing your calendar for. The special Saturday concerts this season are June 13, July 18 for Motown, August 15 for Salsa, and September 12 for the Annapolis Songwriters Festival. July 18 will be the loudest night on West Street all month, which is either the reason to go or the reason to stay home with the porch open.
Thursday Splits Between The Water And The Town Center
Thursdays in Annapolis this July are running two free concert series at once, in two very different rooms.
Down by Back Creek, the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park's Tides & Tunes summer series brings live music to the waterfront every Thursday, with July's lineup featuring The Grilled Lincolns, One Night Only, Timmie Metz Band, Sweet Leda, and the John Frase Project. Bring a low chair. The lawn is small and the sunset does the heavy lifting.
Uptown near Route 50, Annapolis Town Center runs Thursday Night LIVE!, a free outdoor concert series pairing live music with patio dining and the surrounding eateries. The distinction between the two Thursdays is worth understanding before you commit. Maritime Museum is a quiet-water crowd with kids on blankets. Town Center is a walk-up crowd already three deep at the bar. Same night, different weeknight identity, and the drive between them is not close enough to do both.
July 16 Rewrites The Waterfront Rotation
The county's biggest restaurant news this month lands mid-week, mid-month, and mid-harbor. The Atlas Restaurant Group's Italian chophouse Marmo and its dockside cantina Armada open July 16 at 80 Compromise Street, at the Annapolis Waterfront Hotel, and while Marmo serves hand-rolled pastas, seafood, and hand-cut prime steaks, Armada leans into tacos, quesadillas, fajitas and nachos with an extensive tequila, mezcal, and agave list.
Scale is the part that will change how residents use the harbor. Marmo has room for 350 guests, including 150 seats overlooking Annapolis Harbor, and Armada seats 200, with half the seats offering waterfront views. That is a lot of new capacity dropped into a corner of downtown that has essentially been running the same rotation for a decade. For a resident who has spent years cycling among Carrol's Creek, Chart House, and The Choptank, the effect is that the pressure on Friday reservations on the harbor should ease measurably. Both interiors were designed by Patrick Sutton, a Baltimore-based designer, which is why the two rooms will feel connected to the rest of the harbor without looking like every other waterfront room in town.
The realistic advice for the first two weeks after opening is to eat at Armada on a Wednesday, walk over to West Street for the Dinner Under the Stars music, and let Marmo settle in before you try to book a Friday harbor-view four-top. Opening-week reservations are always the worst version of a new restaurant.
The One-Off Nights Worth Clearing
The recurring series are the spine of the month. The one-offs are what turn a normal week into a memorable one.
- July 10, Rams Head On Stage: Shovels & Rope play Rams Head at 8 PM on Friday, July 10.
- July 11, Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium: Annapolis Blues FC play their only July home match against Bethesda SC at 7 PM, with the passionate matchday atmosphere that has made the Blues one of the region's more electric summer sports experiences.
- July 16, City Dock: The Anne Arundel Chamber's Midsummer's Night Cruise runs 6 to 8:30 PM aboard the Catherine Marie, pairing networking with Chesapeake Bay views.
- July 18, Anne Arundel Community College: Illuminate Annapolis, a free community wellness and arts festival, runs 10 AM to 5 PM at AACC.
- July 20 and July 21, Rams Head On Stage: Stewart Copeland plays two consecutive nights, Monday July 20 at 7 PM and Tuesday July 21 at 8 PM.

The Fourth Falls On A Saturday, Which Is Its Own Planning Problem
Fourth of July activities in Annapolis carry extra weight in 2026 because of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, and the holiday falls on a Saturday in the middle of a three-day weekend running July 3 through 5. A Saturday Fourth changes the traffic pattern. Fireworks crowds thin out on Sunday, but everything else is compressed into a single evening.
Local parades and fireworks worth knowing about: the Downtown Annapolis Parade and Fireworks 2026 start at 6:30 PM on July 4 at Amos Garrett Boulevard, the Severna Park parade with the decorated bike contest runs July 11 from 9:15 AM to noon at 1 Holly Avenue, and Glen Burnie Fireworks 2026 run July 3 from 9 to 10 PM at Sawmill Creek Park, 7405 Charley Eckman Lane. Cape St. Claire runs its own version too. The Cape St. Claire parade starts at the Cape St. Claire Fire Department, works its way to the beach, and continues with activities on the beach after the parade wraps.
If you have out-of-town family in for the weekend, Glen Burnie on Friday night and Severna Park the following Saturday morning gives you a fireworks-plus-parade experience with an entire quiet Sunday in between to recover. That is the planning version of using the county the way residents actually use it, rather than trying to catch everything on July 4 itself.
Where To Put The Kids And The Dog On The Off Nights
Between the concert nights, Quiet Waters Park gives you over six miles of paved trails, a multi-level children's playground, the South River promenade and scenic overlook, and 340 acres of picnic ground, with Capital SUP running paddle rentals down the Harness Creek Trail. The park is the correct answer for a resident who does not want to sit through another concert but still wants to be outside for two hours before dinner. On a July evening with the shade holding, the Harness Creek loop is arguably the best short walk in this half of the county.
Putting The Grid Together
The reason to think of July as a Wednesday-Thursday county rather than a weekend county is not aesthetic. It is that the free programming worth walking to is stacked on those two nights, the mid-month restaurant openings drop on a Thursday, and the Fourth falls on a Saturday in a way that funnels everyone to the same three blocks at the same time. Move your standing dinner reservation to Wednesday. Take the family to Back Creek on Thursday. Save Friday for the new patio at Armada once the opening rush cools.
